MSP User Spotlight: Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church

Tucked away in Southern Indiana, just 30 minutes north of the Kentucky state line and 30 minutes east of Illinois, the people of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church have been coming together to worship, learn, and support each other for nearly 150 years.

Today, with 300 volunteers and 10 ministries to organize, ministry scheduling is central to the life of the church.

Emily Lutz oversees the ministry scheduling. She uses Ministry Scheduler Pro to create regular mass schedules, ensuring masses run smoothly and parishioners share their talents at times that work for them.

While regular mass ministries are core to the church’s ministry scheduling, another ministry, Home Communion, has particularly benefited from using MSP. This ministry consists of 15 Extraordinary Ministers who work in pairs to carry the Eucharist to an average of 10 homes each Friday.

Before the implementation of MSP, the Home Communion schedule was written by hand. It was a frustrating process that made it difficult to ensure that the ministers were scheduled fairly and on days when they were available to serve. After moving Home Communion into MSP several years ago, Emily shared, “Creating and sending out the Home Communion schedule takes less than 10 minutes now!”

She posts the schedule for Home Communion on the Web Terminal as a separate schedule from the master schedule. The Home Communion ministers can see what is happening in this special role without needing to sort through the entire weekend masses.

In their nearly 150 year history, the parishioners of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church have embraced technology to support the important work of their church. By leveraging tools like MSP, they’ve also encouraged church volunteers by creating fair schedules and honoring availability. Because of this, Home Communion and their other ministries can grow and thrive as they continue serving the people of Haubstadt, Indiana.
